Saudi e-Government

Citizens in the Arab world, especially in Saudi Arabia are becoming more sophisticated technologically. The growth of internet used in the Arab world has forced governments and their organisations to admit and utilise the Internet as a delivery means. And through massive investment in new technology, the region is forced to invest heavily in real-time solutions, which are essential if the government want to successfully implement the trend by upgrading their delivery services through strategic planning and implementation of up-to-date technology system.

The Saudi Arabian government is investing SR 3 Billion for the comprehensive implementation by setting up necessary bases for a complete execution of the e-government in the kingdom.

Saudi Arabia's e-Government initiative aims to enhance public services and access to government-related services through online system while assuring affordability and accountability. e-Government initiatives will never be successful of course unless citizens are willing to utilise the electronic systems being made available. In order to create knowledge societies that drive economic growth and development, Saudi Arabia is pursuing its e-governance initiative and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the public and private sectors in the Kingdom; launching awareness campaigns for encouraging the populous to use eGovernment services reflecting the country's ultimate belief in full automation of governmental businesses and applications.

Recent policy amendments and attempts of security breeches gave further enhancement to the national plan by encouraging investment to be critically focused on enhancing IT security and interoperability to efficiently meet new challenges that will arise in near future. A firm grasp of the recent surfacing technology and applications in supporting and securing the objective of the national plan is critical for success.
